S-PAM Story

Every performance environment tells a story. Behind every match, training session, tactical adjustment, player decision, and coaching intervention, there are patterns, interactions, and moments that shape performance outcomes. Over time, one question continued to emerge:

How can performance analysis become more structured, meaningful, and connected to the realities of sports?

This question became the foundation of the Sports Performance Analysis Model (S-PAM). S-PAM was designed and developed by Sam Sedghinia through years of observation, coaching, analysis, education, and reflection on how performance is understood within sport environments. During the ADVANCED COACHING DIPLOMA (ACD) program in Canadian Sports Institute, his final presentation was Performance Analysis in Youth Soccer, and this presentation was the cornerstone to design the model of performance analysis based on logic, mathematics and statistics.

The goal was to develop a structured framework that integrates performance data, decision-making, coaching processes and real competitive environments into a single, integrated system grounded in logical concepts, mathematics, and statistics. As the concept evolved, it became clear that S-PAM should not exist in isolation from coaching practice. It should support learning, communication, adaptation, and performance improvement in practical and understandable ways. This belief shaped the development of S-PAM as a framework that emphasizes structure, context, and applied decision-making.

The first practical application of the framework became SOCCER-PAM, a soccer-specific adaptation of S-PAM that demonstrates how the model can be applied within team environments, match analysis, tactical planning, player development, and performance workflows. However, the vision extended far beyond one sport. The long-term objective is to create a growing ecosystem of sport-specific models, such as BASEBALL-PAM, VOLLEYBALL-PAM, and etc., as well as future adaptations that reflect the unique realities of different sports' environments. We invite coaches from all sports to help adapt S-PAM to their sports and continue as S-PAM Developers in this field.

The ongoing management of the website, workshops, educational activities, and development initiatives related to S-PAM is operated by the Sports Coaching Centre. Through education, collaboration, and practical application, the Sports Coaching Centre supports the continued growth of the framework and its contribution to performance analysis.
